Message from Matt Kriese, Brown County Parks Director:

We want everyone to enjoy the trail and have a safe experience. At road intersections from the Town of Rockland and south, we are rebuilding the gates and will plan to have closed gates. The closed gates will provide a layer of advance notification for users when approaching intersections. Seeing as this is a change from past years, please be observant while using the trail and use caution going around these gates.

This is being done to improve safety at these intersections. There has been reports of abuse by motorized UTV’s and multiple complaints from bikers and other users not stopping at the required stop signs located at each intersection.

This summer (April-September) a fulltime Park Ranger will be stationed on the trails. Enforcement levels will be increased, and Violation Notices will be issued for anyone stopped without a valid Trail Permit. If you receive a Violation Notice you will have 5 days to pay the $10 penalty AND purchase an ANNUAL permit. If payment is not received after one warning, citations may be issued. Remember, the trail is not tax levy funded and user fees are imperative for BC Parks to continue maintenance on these trails.
